Adventures in Home Education
£3.99 We were in the stationary shop. In the pen section, Olivia found me to ask if I could buy something and she would pay me back. All good by me, so I purchased the A5 book for three pounds and ninety-nine pence. Not long after we were home, there she was with carefully counted coins. What exactly are we seeing here? We are seeing meaningful, authentic, experiential learning. We will see with our school formed lens 'mathematics'. We also see trust and responsible behaviour. This is a great example of authentic learning, where 'subjects' link and learning is holistic (including the 'hidden curriculum' of relationship patterns and qualities). In the study of Learning, we also see deep learning where all senses were used; there is an experience and many 'memory triggers' there for recall. The 'learning' (verb) was integrated through doing. This is the stuff that cannot be 'learned' (noun) on a worksheet or from an exercise book. |
